Marine Studies
Introduction
![]() |
Natfish offers a Certificate III in Marine Studies, which allows learners to sample major marine industry sectors while gaining practical work focused skills that a particular industry would expect from new employees. |
The course is delivered at the Coffs Harbour campus as a face to face full time course over 1 semester. Attendance is required for 3 to 4 days per week and there is a one week field trip to Hastings Point Marine Education Centre.
Costs
There are two different charges when you enrol in the marine studies course - the TAFE NSW Fee and the Course Related Charge, as well as some optional expenses which the teachers will outline to you when you start.
TAFE NSW Course Fee
There is an annual TAFE NSW Fee for each course you enrol in. The charge is different for each course level and is reviewed each year. You may be eligible for a concession fee if you are on any sort of government benefit.
All certificate level courses are Austudy and Abstudy approved.
Course Related Charge
You are required to pay a Course Related Charge for the course. This covers the diving course and certificate and travel and accommodation for the field trip to Hastings Point.

The Course Related Charge must be paid before you commence your dive course or go on the field trip.
Students who are unable to gain a dive qualification (eg student with asthma or epilepsy) will be provided with alternative units. The course fee is decreased for students in this situation.
Student Association Fee
We recommend that all students join the Student Association. The association provides many services to Natfish students, including discounts at many retail outlets around the state and is constantly improving student facilities on the campus providing things like outdoor furniture and much more.
